Mugu Kids - Series 1

Mugu means 'cheeky' in Yaegl language

Mugu Kids(Mugu means Cheeky in Yaegl language) is an exciting new Kids show made by NITV and Maling Productions.

Indigenous actress, writer and director Jub Clerc hosts Mugu Kids Series 1. Each episode covers a different topic such as: feelings, animals, dreaming and school. This 20 episode children's program highlighting and showcasing a number of Indigenous languages such as: the Arrente language from both Alice Springs and Hermannsburg to the Gumbaynggirr language in Nambucca on the coast of NSW and the Gubbi Gubbi language from the Sunshine Coast in Qld.

Well known Indigenous singer song writers such as Warren H Williams and Kerrianne Cox perform their favourite children's songs along with up and coming new artists like Jason Brown and MStar make us all want to dance and sing along to their cute and entertaining children's songs.

And over 20 Indigenous children's story books read by their authors and illustrators from all around the country make up the first series of Mugu Kids.

Episode 1 – Welcome

Look, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub and her friends. MStar sings a song with her dad about dinosaurs, the kids at Nambour Public School teach us some Gubbi Gubbi language and Tamzyne Richardson reads her book My Home Broome.

Episode 2 – What Makes a Day Good

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as she explains the different tastes fruits give off while The Witchety Grubs sing their song, all the good things, Uncle Michael Jarrett teachers us some language words in the Gumbaynggirr language and Nola Turner – Jensen reads her children's book, The Sugar Bag.

Episode 3 - School

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids Host Jub as she plays with a bouncing ball and does some exercise for the kids while Jason Brown sings a song about his best friend, Sue the Kangaroo and Uncle Warren H Williams plays with some kids at Hermannsburg in the desert.

Episode 4 – What Makes Us Happy?

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as she tells us what makes her happy while the Kids from Thornbury Public School sing happy birthday in the Wurundjeri Language to their Uncle Phil Cooper and Renee Foggorty reads her book Fair Skin Fella.

Episode 5 – Animals

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids Host Jub as she explores the many animals from across this country. Nadeena Dixon sings a special song about the whales, MStar performs her fun and beautiful song, Guess what this animal is and Norma Macdonald reads her book, Spinifex Mouse.

Episode 6 – Move Your Body

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub because she wants all the kids to move their bodies. Aunty Sharon Edgar – Jones teaches her kids some body part words in the Wanarruwa language and we listen to the Marngrook story from Diana Secombe.

Episode 7 - Dreaming

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as she loves to dream and explore the bush. Sue the Kangaroo and Jason Brown sing and dance about dreaming under the moon and Bronwyn Houston reads her book, Staircase to the Moon.

Episode 8 – Colours

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as we learn language words in the Gumbayngirr language from Uncle Michael Jarrett. Malu Kiai Dance Troup perform a sit down dance and Aunty Sue Atkinson reads her book, Yurri's Birthday.

Episode 9 – Nature

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as we learn about nature. Kerrianne Cox sings about bush tucker. Jason Brown teaches some Gundungurra language and Joshua Button reads his book, Joshua and The Two Crabs.

Episode 10 – Family

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub. Families are important and Aunty Lorraine Williams from the Larrakia Nation teaches her kids some language words for family members. Aunty Marie Kemp reads her book, Mook Mook goes fishing and Miranda Garling performs some special songs about mothers and fathers.

Episode 11- Nature

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as we learn about nature. Also Aunty Sharon Edgar Jones teaches her kids landscapes names in the Wanarruwa language and Delphine Sarago – Kendrick reads her book, Nana's land.

Episode 12 – Numbers

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub while the Witchetty Grubs sing, Tricky Little Things, Arone Raymond Meek reads his book, Enora and The Black Crane and The Thornbury Public School kids sing a song in the Wurundjeri language.

Episode 13 – Dreaming

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub. Nadeena Dixon performs her song, Mulberry Dive, Annette Sax reads the book she illustrated, Bartja and Mayila and some kids perform a Torres Strait Island sit down song.

Episode 14 - Family

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub. Bronwyn Bancroft reads her book, Remembering Lionsville also we learn some of the Eastern Arrernte language from Patricia Ellis and Miranda Garling sings a happy father's day song.

Episode 15 – Our Body

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub. MStar performs her song, Like a Dinosaur. We learn heads, shoulders, knees and toes in the Awabakal language, Brett Miller from the Gubbi Gubbi nation teaches his kids from Nambour State School some language words for body parts. And Dub Leffler reads his book, Once There was a Boy.

Episode 16 - Animals

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub. Also Jason Brown sings about dreaming under the moon, Uncle Warren Williams also performs his song, Skinny Frog and Uncle Michael Jarrett has a Gumbayngirr version of Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.

Episode 17 – Move Your Body

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as she gets up to dance. Miranda Garling performs, You've Got Moves, Uncle Warren Williams teaches the kids in Hermannsburg Western Arrernte language and Uncle Joel Wenitong sings, Propa Mad Deadly.

Episode 18 – Favorites

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub. Kerrianne Cox sings her song, Walking Along the Edge, Aunty Maxine Jarrett teaches some kids the Gumbayngirr language and Marie Kemp reads her book, Mook Mook goes fishing.

Episode 19 - Feelings

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as she explores our feelings. The Witchetty Grubs sing their song, All the Good Things, Kirra Somerville reads her book, Lizard Gang and Miranda Garling from the Top End plays her guitar and sings her song, If You Got a Problem.

Episode 20 – Learning is Fun

Look, listen, learn and dance with Mugu Kids host Jub as she learns some Gundungurra language from Jason Brown also Arone Raymond Meek reads his book Enora and The Black Crane and we learn to count in the Awabakal language from Jacqui Allen.
